Vipava Valley

Look deep into nature, and you will
understand everything better.

Vipava Valley – Uniquely Different. Any Time of the Year.

Below the high Karst plateaus lies the Vipava Valley, the beauty caught between the Alpine, Karst and the Mediterranean world, which basks in the sun. This is where the fine tastes of special wines mature, where the luscious smell of the maturing fruit spreads and where picturesque villages shimmer among the green hills. When the bora wind blows in the valley, it is wise to find shelter in one of the numerous wine cellars and taste the delicacies produced by the Vipava soil. And when the sun caresses the landscape again, it is time to wander – on foot or by bicycle, any time of the year. This Slovenian Aurora which is awakening in all its beauty was noticed by the world-established travel guide book publisher Lonely Planet, which placed it on the list of top ten destinations in Europe which it recommends to visit.

Ajdovscina

Ajdovščina, the second largest town in the Vipava Valley, may seem a sleepy, rural town at first glance. Safely huddled next to the slopes of the Gora Plateau, it is tucked away in a fertile valley and influenced by the mild Mediterranean climate. But looks can be deceiving. Almost as though the town had taken on the character of the torrential Hubelj River next to which it grew, Ajdovščina is a surprisingly dynamic, on occasion even impulsive town, brimming with creative drive.

Vipava

During its long and rich history, Vipava had several official names and even more unofficial bynames. Natives humbly refer to it as a market, while admirers of the Vipava River’s fascinating delta-shaped source and bridges came to dub it the Venice of Slovenia. In recent years, there are more and more people who acknowledge it as the undisputed capital of the Vipava Valley wine. Vipava is a picturesque little town, chock-full of stories and lovely surprises.
